Wikipedia says “Truth is the property of being in accord with fact or reality. In everyday language, truth is typically ascribed to things that aim to represent reality or otherwise correspond to it, such as beliefs, propositions, and declarative sentences.”
What is truth according to Plato?
Plato believed that there are truths to be discovered; that knowledge is possible. Moreover, he held that truth is not, as the Sophists thought, relative. Thus, for Plato, knowledge is justified, true belief. Reason and the Forms. Since truth is objective, our knowledge of true propositions must be about real things.
How do we find truth?
Let’s not ask what truth is: let us ask instead how we can recognize it reliably when it appears. Four factors determine the truthfulness of a theory or explanation: congruence, consistency, coherence, and usefulness. A true theory is congruent with our experience – meaning, it fits the facts.
Being aligned with truth is one of the most important things you’ll discover in your life. It’s amazing for me to see that in this day and age most people don’t care about being in line with the truth. They’d rather believe whatever is convenient for them than to know the truth and live it each day. Yes it can be inconvenient to live with the truth, it can be scary, it can be something that takes a lot of time from our schedules to find but in the end it is well worth it.
One of the very interesting things I’ve discovered about the truth is it is like learning any new skill, once you put enough time into it and accumulate enough knowledge about it, it becomes easier and easier to locate and implement it into your life. Take bird watching for instance, at first you are not very good and finding them, then when you do you don’t know what kind they are and how to differentiate one species from another when they look similar but after years of practising you can spot the little details and nuances in a split second.
This is the power of accumulating the skills of deciphering the truth. You owe it to yourself to want the truth; you should respect yourself enough to only deserve the truth no matter what it takes to get it.
Now why do I make such a fuss about this each and every day? It’s because as you’ve likely already discovered, following the truth is essential to discovering what the markets are actually doing so you know how to trade them and make consistent profits. Also in life we are constantly being bombarded with information and 99.9999% of it is nonsense. The true information is the most difficult to find because no one is paying large advertising dollars to get the truth into your hands. Advertising and propaganda’s only agenda is to make you believe something that you would not normally believe unless you were made to believe it.
Once you discover certain truths about the world, our history and the potential for our future then and only then will you truly be alive. Most people go day to day living their life as if they were alive but in “truth” they are not and sadly they will never discover this until its too late. Being truly alive – in every sense of the word – means being in line with the truth as this is the only way to live a good life.
