What is happening to our language?

I’ve been watching a series from the Sherlock Holmes series from the 80’s and I have to tell you I just love it. I love the stories, I love the settings and I love the costumes… ok I love it all. The stories are so well written and they are written in a form of English we just do not see in today’s films or stories. What do I mean by this? Well if you have noticed, over the years the quality of the English language that has been taught to us and what we are being exposed to on a daily basis is of a very low standard. When you really examine the vocabulary used today, it is the most basic of words and when you look around you, you’ll find that people actually have a hard time putting their words into sentences to really get their points across. I often wonder why it is like this because you’d think through time we should all be getting better at all the things we learn. Well you’d think that but it just doesn’t seem to be the case. It’s not even clear that this is happening to us unless you look back and read old books and see for yourself the standard in which language used to be.

Nowadays you have people sending text messages to each other and instead of sending actual words they are send emojis. Hey I’ve been known to do the same BUT I can tell you I find myself asking why I am doing it. The more I ask myself the more I realize I want to stop doing it. I want to go back to the time I used to write out full sentences and pay particular attention to my grammar. Now I know I have a lot of work I need to do in the way I structure sentences but I also know it is a work in progress.

I hope you enjoy my writing and hope you don’t find it too frustrating to get through some of my sentences. ;) I promise to continue working on my skills in order to bring you quality content that is helpful and hopefully will bring a smile or inspiration to your day!

Have a great week!
